Has anyone access to the 1851 census for Didsbury. I am searching for Thurstan Barrit Twiss who married in Manchester Cathedral in 1856 giving his address as Park Field, Didsbury and his job as a Butler. Was there a large house in that area?

Park Field, Didsbury, Manchester
Most certainly there were (and are) fine houses in Didsbury - it was (and is) a highly sought after area to live. It was an area where the wealthy have lived and still do!
There are many large Victorian type houses. I have not studied Didsbury and know little of it's time around the 1850s but I can tell you that it is a thriving "in place" with people of all ages.
Most likely your subject would have worked in one of the large houses around Didsbury Park.
Hope this helps a little.
Jack Richards.

Water damage apart...if he is in the area he should be easy to find as this area is surname indexed.I'll check it out later.

There was only one TWISS listed in the index which covered the Didsbury area and the Census WAS badly waterdamaged.I found what I think was the entry for a Joseph TWISS who was living somewhere in Gorton.(That's how good the image was).I had a look in the indexes for the other area of Manchester. There were only a few references to check.Your man was not to be found.So......he was enumerated in a district that has been water damaged and therefore was not indexed,he was not enumerated or he was not in Manchester on the night of the Census.

Thanks for the look-up. I will have to try other avenues of research.
Best wishes
