If he was medically discharged, it might be worth looking at the pension records that survived WW1. Many libraries have a subscription to Ancestry for the use of their readers, so ask yours about it.

I did take a look on ancestry this morning but could only see his medal roll index card so unfortunately it looks as though your blokes records were amongst the 60% plus of WW1 records that were destroyed by bombs in WW11.
