    Default Humphrey brothers died WW1

I am trying to find information relating to two brothers who were killed in action during WW1. Ancestry turns up little or no information.

Pte Charles Henry HUMPHREY G/5952 1st Battalion Middlesex Regiment
Died 15.7.1916 Battle of the Somme
    Thiepal Memorial, France

Pte William Frederick HUMPHREY 12846 9th Battalion Devonshire Regiment
    Died 7.7.1916
    Staples Military Cemetery, France

I am trying to help a relative of the brothers who seeks any other military records or information relating to the brothers.

Many thanks for reading this post.

Most service records have not survived so most researchers are in the same boat as you.

You should be able to find their medal index cards (I have). William Frederick died of wounds hence Etaples (not Staples) - Etaples was a hospital area. Charles was killed in action.

You could search for the unit war diaries. Some are downloadable, some you would have to visit the National Archives to read.

    HI Lynn

On Ancestry do you have this - UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War , for both of them. Under the military section along with Medal Index Card. So you have when the entered France, when they enlisted, where they were born and when they died.

    CWGC has this - https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/ca...AM%20FREDERICK
William in under Ancestry as Humphreys in SDGW and with his MIC.

    https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/ca...HARLES%20HENRY

Plus you should be able to find them in 1901 and 1911 census

    regards

    Robert
