Joseph Edwin Levey born in Montreal Canada abt 1848/50 settled in Australia and married Sara Cohen. Joseph Levey appears in the 1861 Canada Census age 13 living in Montreal with his widowed mother Gertrude and his siblings - see #2 of the thread John Levey- Gertude Levey.
Joseph's mother Gertrude died in London in 1891 her husband John Levey had died in Montreal in 1858.

The Sydney Morning Herald Weds 18 Feb 1891.

Joseph had married Sara Cohen in 1874- Marriage 9 Dec 1874 at York St Synagogue, Joseph Edwin Levey son of the late Mr John Levey of New York USA to Sara eldest daughter of the late Michael Cohen of this city. The Sydney Morning Herald Sat 12 Dec 1874. I will post more on the Cohen line because it further relates via marriages to one of my Hart lines.

Joseph and Sara had 4 children- Gertrude 1876-1947; Athelstane Michael 1878-1961; Priscilla Irene ( Zillah) 1885-1941; Gerald John 1886-1950.

Joseph died in 1917- The Sydney Morning Herald Mon 25 June 1917- Levey - June 23 at 49 Glenview St Paddington, Joseph Edwin husband of Sara Levey and father of Athol, Gerald and Gertrude Levey and Mrs T E SWEET in his 68th year. Sara died in 1933.
