In my search for information on the founder of our town, here in New Zealand, Frederick Sedgwick Abbott, I have found that he spent his last year before he died in the house of Ann A.Luce ( 50 year old head of house) at 14, Clarence Villa, Clarence Rd, St Heliers, Jersey. Other residents at this address were Elizabeth A Luce, (35 year old sister); Elizabeth Amy (a 90 year old boarder); Ada Collas, (a 14 year old domestic servant). Any information relating to any of these people and hopefully their relations would be most welcome.

In 1911 the Luce sisters are still at the same address as in 1901 and described as Boarding House keeper and assistant.
So it appears it was a boarding house most probably in 1901 too and maybe the Abbotts were boarding there.

Yes, sorry , I should have mentioned the 1901 census. It seems that Frederick Abbott was a man of means as he sold his sheep station around 1870 and married Ida in 1885. After his death in 1901 his wife resided at 109, Don Rd, Haut de Ville, St Heliers until her death 5th Jan 1942. At that time she still owned a commertcial property in Napier, NZ. She left all her personal effects to the Catholic Orphanage, Rouge Bouillon, St Heliers. It seems that there were no children but nephews and neices to which she left considerable money. They were Maurice, George, Louise & Gertrude Bradberry and Margaret and Geoffrey Paul. What we at the Central Hawkes Bay Museum would be excited to find would be an image of Frederick Abbott. Despite many of his contemporaries in NZ having been photographed we have none of him.
