hi there, - hoping someone will be able to help with my query, why would a married woman who had 4 children already, go into the workhouse alone to give birth to her 5th child and be at a different address 1 month later, if the whole family was in dire straits wouldn't all of them go into the workhouse. until circumstances improved? in 1881 she was living with her family and in-laws, but i did notice that she was the only adult female there. would this account for it?

Maybe it was a difficult pregnancy and she was cared for in the Infirmary?

hi, thanks for your reply, never thought of that - he was her last child and she was only about 35 years old.
