Hi All
I am trying to find any info regarding the Ancestry of James Edward Smith Born in Liverpool in 1879.
He was the son of Henry Parker Smith (bn 1839) and Mary Windle or Wendle (bn 1851) Henry was born in St Pancras and I think was the son of Henry and Ann Smith. Mary was the daughter of Jane Windle / Wendle who was born in Armagh Ireland in 1816. I havent found her father yet.
James Edward lived in Liverpool with Catherine Elizabeth Williams who was born in Wales or Angelsey in 1878ish. They married in Liverpool in 1905. She was the daughter of William Williams.
Hope to hear from you all soon
Mike

There is a birth for a Mary Windle in Oct 1851 in Wigan. Qtr Oct Vol 21 Page 866. If you buy the certificate it will tell you her father’s name (unless she was illegitimate). However, this may be a red herring as there appears to be a Mary Windle born about the same time with parents James and Ann. If you do decide to order a certificate specify the mother’s mother as Jane, and then you went be sent a wrong one, and if they can’t find the one you want you will get a refund.
1891 Census Piece 2924 Folio 9 Page 12 Jane is living on her own in Toxteth. I can’t see any records for her after this.

I had a look for Henry P Smith in the earlier census and think that this might be him in 1851:
Pk House, Church Street, Hackney, Tower Hamlets - Piece: 1505; Folio: 33; Page: 23
He's described as a scholar, although the address is not that specific I think that it was the poor house, as the adults are largely described as paupers. There do not appear to be any adult Smiths present.

Thanks to Megan and Waitabit for your info. I had a quick look at FREEBMD and found a Charles Windle Married a Jane Johnson in Liverpool in 1847. Not sure if these are the right parents for Mary yet.
