Please can anyone tell me where SUDEN, Lancashire is likely to be? (Google keeps trying to send me to the Sudan, but I'm sure my great-granddad didn't ride camels!)
It's written as his birthplace in the 1911 Census: Yorkshire East Riding>Skidby & Rowley>EDM16>page 114,

There is/was a place called Sudden, a hamlet SW of Rochdale - I found the reference on the Godfrey Maps site.

If you look on google maps for "Marland Lancashire", Sudden still shows - just south of the A664 Manchester Road.
Much better answer from Peter Goodey!Last edited by pennydog; 08-05-2013 at 4:08 PM. Reason: Saw Peter's better answer.
