    Thank you so much for posting this link, Peter. It might have answered a burning question that has haunted me for the last 4 years. Of course, no slave names are mentioned under the claims, but the fact that Joseph Bowen of Salt Spring was compensated for 9 slaves less than he registered in 1832, gives me hope that he upheld my 4xgreat grandfather's wishes and manumitted a little family of 9 in 1833. We can never prove this, of course, but the exact number might not be a coincidence. I shall need to look into things further.
