    Default vick family connection ?

    Good morning All

i am trying ..'unsuccessfully' !! to make a connection between : violet Vick b.1889 newport wales d. 1965 cardif Wales and joseph vick b1640 Randwick . Gloucestershire .

Joseph emigrated circa 1675 to America , his parents were richard vick b.1604 and marjorie meeks b. 1612.

i have traced joseph's line in America thro to Dr Joshua W Vick b, 1843 , the well known vapor rub was named after him .!! .

    Violets parents : henry Vick b.1854 d. 1896 (42 yrs !) M bridget power 1876 in Newport

    henry's parents : alfred vick b.1826 M patience chandler 1851

    Alfred's parents : William Vick b. 1802 M Comfort Organ b.1798 .

Family rumour has it that by marriage violet is part of the Vapor rub family !!, i am trying to prove it or disprove it .

    can anyone help ?

There is a Vick one-name study registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies. Contact details can be found here:

Three resources which might help you research the VICKs of Randwick.

    1) There are several locally-proved VICK wills from Randwick, and surrounding parishes, listed on the Gloucestershire Genealogical database of the Glos Archives:
    https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/ar...article/107388

    2) There is also an online index to the catalogue of the Glos Archives in general. This has over 100 entries for VICK:
    https://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/DS...qCmd=Index.tcl

    3) Some other wills were proved at the PCC rather than locally, and these are now held at the National Archives. (Explained on website). You can search on VICK and Gloucestershire. (Throws up VICKERS, VICKERY etc as well, but there aren’t too many to wade through).
    https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/wills.htm

All these should help you as you research Violet’s ancestry. As it seems her father came from Randwick, there is a good chance you will link back to individuals who lived there in the 1640s.

HOWEVER I would be careful about assuming that the Joseph who was the first settler in the US (1675-ish) was in fact the one from Randwick. I went onto the VICK surname board to see what activity there was there. There seems to be a significant DNA project in hand and it looks as though UK people who are definitely Randwick descendents do NOT match the DNA of Joseph’s descendents in the US.

Or maybe you have a more-up-to-date picture ....?
    Good luck sorting it out!

On another message board, it seems there are burials nearby that probably account for the Joseph and Margery who married at Randwick in the 1660s - so this couple did NOT emigrate!

    Default Ooops!!

Joseph Vick married Margery Russell at Kings Stanley, not Randwick.

    (Sorry, not concentrating!)

Useful resources for Randwick - includes transcriptions of many parish registers.
    (Found via the GENUKI site).
