Hello,
I am trying to find out more about my great grandfather GEORGE LOGAN who was a Second Lieutenant with the Forth RGA during WWI and received the Order of the Crown of Italy - Cavalier in 1918 but I cannot find out what he did to get this award and exactly what the medal is. I have done some research on him through the internet and have had some good results sofar so I thought I would try this forum. Any information will be greatly apprieciated.
Regards
Ron

Unfortunately, there is little chance of finding a citation for foreign awards such as these. The Allied nations allocated decorations and awards to each other, . It was a matter for the receiving nations as to how and to whom they were awarded, and rarely, if ever, was a citation published. Up until May 1920, Italy issued 2,229 to the UK, almost equally split between officers and other ranks, although no doubt the type of awards would have been graded for officers and OR's.
However, there are outside two possibilities for research. Local newspaper reports , and surviving officers records at the National Archive, in WO 339 or WO 374.

Thank you Terry for you reply. Will try to see what the newspapers say if I can find them. It is rather difficult from Australia.
