Death in India

Good evening all, my 2 x great grand uncle James Willis Townsend b 1823 Westminster emigrated to Oz 1853 was Auctioneer in Sandhurst (now Bendigo) m Charlotte C Neale died in Howrah then India 5 Aug 1866 can find no Indian records can anyone help

Thanks Megan, tried the India Office records but no joy :-( My 1st go was Christian Church's/Cemetries in Google, as far as I know he wasn't military, just would like to know why he was in India

Family Search have some Indian records that I have found very useful. Also a website called FIBIS (Families in British India)

I googled John Willis Townsend India and found a site with the dod as 5th August 1866 Howrah India
