    Default Will

Hi, what does it mean when a will is resworn? I have a relative's will which at the time of her death May 1881 her effects were valued at 185 pounds, this is then resworn in March 1883 to 816 pounds.

Executors of wills have to take an oath when they submit an estate to probate, basically saying that they have declared the full value. If probate is subsequently resworn, it can be for a variety of reasons, but as in this case the value of the estate has increased it would suggest that some asset had come to light that was not originally known about. The asset could be anything from a bank account to shares to another form of investment to property.

Does a resworn will actually say what the new-found assets are?

Edit: This is a general question and not specific to Tracey's enquiry.

The grant of probate should show it (not the will).

found the will of another relative, another sister dated March 1883 which is the resworn date of the first will so looks like she left money to her sister's estate.
