    Default from Veteran to Pensioner

    An ancestor is recorded as being a Crimean Veteran on one census, by the next he is listed as being a Chelsea Pensioner.

    How do you make the transition from being a veteran to a pensioner-and out of interest, how did one become a Chelsea Pensioner? Are veterans and pensioners one and the same? When did the Army start to pay pensions?

    This man was a Bombadier in the RA. I know so little about the Army but would welcome information please.
