Default Thomas Tuson 1881 and 1891

I have the Mile End Old Town 1901 census transcript for a Thomas Tuson born c.1853 in London. He is listed with his wife Mary and their children William (1881), Sarah (1882), Ernest (1886), George (1888) and Thomas (1890). And a grandson is also recorded
    RG13/334/99/12

Try as I will on Findmypast I cannot find them in 1881 or 1891. I've used all the variations of Tuson I can think of.

I can find potential births for the children on FreeBMD in Mile End but not Thomas' marriage.

Hopefully the 'super sleuths' will have more luck than me!!

    Thanks
    David

1891: Thomas is "Joseph" on the original.

    Class:*RG12;*Piece:*308;*Folio:*149;*Page:*41;*

The children's names and ages match exactly.

    1881:

    Class:*RG11;*Piece:*482;*Folio:*77;*Page:*11

Joseph, Archibald & William match those in 1891.

BRILLIANT Robin, your solutions explain why I couldn't find Joseph in 1901.

    Many many thanks

I think the recording of his name as Thomas is a mistake as this appears to be Joseph's death registration:

    Deaths Sep 1903
    Tuson Joseph John 51 Whitechapel 1c 171

I think you are correct - but we'll forgive the transcribers this once

The enumerator's book clearly shows "Thomas". The enumerator may have made a mistake copying from the household schedule but it was not the fault of more recent transcribers/indexers.

I don't think David was blaming the transcribers, indexers or even the enumerators as the original for the 1901 census clearly states Thomas.

I actually think he realises it was just a mistake which we all know is susceptible with human nature being the way it is!

EXACTLY -- I never "blame" volunteers for errors that are uncovered in later research - they do a fabulous job which I respect and appreciate. I've tried deciphering old handwriting and know how difficult it can be to get every word and letter correct. I was simply making a light hearted comment in response to Robin solving my problem.
