Do you think I ought to contact 'Austrailia Directory of Biography' and set them right or just leave it. after all it says

I think you should try if you have the energy. It wouldn't be the first mistake that has been made on the ADB - and some biographies have been sanitized. At least this seems to be an error that only access to heaps of records can be proven wrong. TROVE I think is making lots of people reassess what they thought.

Thanks Jane. I have sent them my findings. Now all I have to do is just sit back and wait. According to their bumph, they say they will reply to my email. I don't know if I can hold my breath that long.

    Had an email this morning.

Thank you for your email regarding the parents of William Butters. I will look into the issue you have raised and get back to you within a few days.

Meanwhile, your interest in the Australian Dictionary of Biography is appreciated.

    Yours sincerely,

I have found yet another site that has a biography on the Rev. William Butters.

This one say's his parents Were John and Mary Butters, maybe John was a bigamist as in the one by ADB his parents were John and Sarah!!

    http://webjournals.ac.edu.au/journal...iam-1810-1887/

    They also have
BUTTERS, WILLIAM (b. Hibalstow, Lincs, England, Jan 1810; d. Brixton, Devon, England, 10 Oct 1887). Wesleyan Methodist minister.
Now his death is on FreeBMD and is registered in Lambeth.

Brixton, Devon!!! He died in Upper Tulse Hill, London.

Several sites I have visited say he had 5 children when in fact he had 8.

Tell me honestly, do people just guess these things up? or am I being to critical?

somebody obviously doesn't know their Brixton from their Brixham. I'm glad that they are not driving me anywhere, or I could end up anywhere and not be heard from again.
