Farnborough village, Orpington address

I have been told prior to the house becoming an antique shop, that a Bryant was living at 88 High Street, Farnborough, Bromley, Kent.
This building is now a shop called "The Old Forge" and has been from 1987.

I believe that a previous resident was a William Henry Bryant(died 1959 at a Hampstead address) or a later relation of his, probably in residence
from 1930.

Can anybody throw some light on this or tell me what direction to take.

Spot checks in the online Kelly's Bromley directories for 1929 and 1937 at
archive.

show Sydney T Bryant, plumber, at 88 High Street, Farnborough. I will look for William at other dates and in electoral rolls when I'm next at Bromley Local Studies (probably tomorrow).

Peter, I was just trying to establish who the Bryant was and if he was the one I knew of.

William Henry Bryant (died 1959 at a Hampstead address)

Actually the Probate Calendar says he died in Whittington Hospital, Islington. His home address was 38 Tudor Close, Belsize Avenue NW3.

Have you ordered a copy of the will? You may find specific reference to any property.

I believe one of the relations may have a copy somewhere in their attic.

Sidney the plumber is shown at that address in Farnborough directories from 1905 to 1940. If they resumed after WW2 (most didn't), Bromley LSL doesn't have them.

I couldn't find pre-WW2 electoral rolls for Farnborough, but post-war the only other Bryants were female, presumably Sidney's wife and daughter.

What drew you to this address? If you really think this is William's family, I'll look harder for the pre-WW2 ERs next week and give you more detail as to dates.

Don't worry about any further research along that line, thank you.

It was a hunch shall we say.

The W.H.Bryant(b.1844 Invercargill) did have a wife(although I can not find any record of marriage - could have been in Aust.) but no offspring that we know of. The marriage didn't last long and the lady concerned - possible name Daisy - had her own money so wanted nothing from the will in 1959. The family know little about her but I know he must have married early 1920's - he is listed as married on a shipping record in 1924.

The W.H.Bryant(b.1844 Invercargill)

He died in 1959? Possible but unlikely. The one who died in Islington in 1959 was aged 75 and therefore born in 1883/4
