    Default RHODES FAMILY

I'm trying to find descendants of Cyril Edmonds Rhodes & Elizabeth (Betty) Frances Rhodes (nee Alexander). She was the grandaughter of the hymn writer Cecil Frances Alexander. Elizabeth died in 1963 and Cyril in 1966 in West Lulworth, Dorset.
    Any help would be appreciated.

There is quite a lot about Cecil on the internet but I cannot seem to find her descendants mentioned. Other than a small amount of information in The Peerage that does not mention Elizabeth.
Cecil wrote All things bright and beautiful amongst other hymns. Born and died 1818-1895 Ireland.

Can you tell me if your Elizabeth is
Elizabeth Frances Jocelyn Alexander born 1884 in Chelsea, London
the daughter of Robert Jocelyn Alexander and Alice Rachel Humphreys both born 1853 in Ireland but living in Chelsea by 1911. I know you know this but it will help us to try and track the correct Elizabeth.

If you google Cyril's name there are several entries in the London Gazette with dates that may help you place them.
Lieutenant Cyril Edmond Rhodes, from the Territorial Force Reserve, to be Lieu- tenant. Dated 31st August, 1914
There is also an Ellis Island Arrival on 27 September 1921. Maybe their children and descendants are in the USA.

There is also an Ellis Island arrival on May 5th 1909 from Southampton on the Kronprinzess Cecilie. He is single, an Advertising Agent and his father is named as Thomas Rhodes of London.

The entry in 1921 also names Elizabeth. Their last address in England was with Mrs J Alexander, 2 Maids of Honour Road, Richmond, Surrey and he is recorded as a Merchant. The ship was the George Washington and their destination address was 11 Broadway, New York. He was 5' 9 1/2" with fair hair and grey eyes, whilst Elizabeth was 5' 8" tall with brown hair and brown eyes. (Ooh! I do love the detail in these manifests! ) However, it looks like it was intended to be a short visit as they stated that they would just be there for a fortnight.

I'm trying to find descendants of Cyril Edmonds Rhodes
I would advise obtaining a copy of his will which may name his children.

Thank you very much for this. He was a nephew of Cecil John Rhodes, so I'll check to see if Cecil had a brother named Thomas.
