    Default Kellys Directory - 1952

Does anyone know where a copy of this particular edition may be located or can provide a look-up? The counthy could well be Middlesex or possibly Noth London.

If a look up could be done, please private message me and I'll provide details.

The Bishopsgate Institute will have a copy. They have been pretty obliging (in the past) and may well do a look-up for you.
    See their website.

The entry in 1952 Kellys Directory - indicates that he was included as a private resident. How does a private resident warrant inclusion? I have presumed that not every private resident in the area warranted inclusion, so what kind of criteria would have been used in his case?

He was, after all, the son of a retired bus conductor, and his father died in 1936.

There are two types of Kelly's Directory*: Those that list "house-by-house" showing both private residents and businesses, and those that list businesses only. They stopped h-by-h ones for most places in 1939, but a few did resume after WW2 and you appear to have been lucky that your rellie lived in one of the favoured places.

    * Well, more than that, actually, but simplifying for present purposes.

So, it was pure luck, eh? Just in the right place at the right time and nothing more.

I have nicely asked my question. I've remembered something from my childhood - "those that don't ask - don't get" and when information isn't forthcoming those that do ask - probably didn't need the answer in the first place" !

This is not so in my case.
