Help please. Herbert Rigg b. 27/07/1903 in Yorkshire, possibly around Askrigg, died 1984 Southend, married Eileen Carey 1945, served in Army Reg.No. 4682974 possibly Kings Own Yorks. Light Infantry then RAC from 1921 To 1953. I have this information but cannot find his birth cert. information to find his ancestors. It is possible that he may not have had his birth registered as his parents may have been travellers.

Hello Jeff,
Have you ruled out this one?
Herbert RIGG, September quarter 1903, Holbeck registration district, volume 9b, page 327 That would fit with a date of birth of 27th July 1903.

Have you eliminated the Herbert Rigg registered in the September qtr 1903 in the Holbeck registration district? Holbeck 9b 327.
This Herbert can be found on the 1911 census RG14 PN27205 SN90, address St Barnabus Street, Holbeck. If a picture paints a thousand words, a memory paints a thousand pictures.

Many thanks all.
THe holbeck birth seems to be the nearest possiblematch. I am puzzled by the lack of entry in the 1911 census but if they were travellers then that may be an explanation.

Thanks Jan
Have checked the entry out and followed it through to 1871 census. I am now in the process of ordering birth cert and marriage cert to confirm identity.
