More years ago than I care to remember, I heard the followig expressions
a] Money is the Root of all Evil
b] Those that have it want more
c] Those don't, have no idea of what they have missed.
I may be naive, but each of these expressions over the past 2 years have been proven true.
Needless to say, these events are personal. The events have all been resolved and paid off but I sit here and I think ---what if?????????????
Again, I don't want to elaborate but while waiting for information on these matters, I spent my time researching descendants and their families. I had birth marriage and death certs and all census [1841-1911] at my disposal. BMD registrations were readily available, OPC's provided details from parish records and so it was 'cool'. There were a few hiccups along the way but my expenses were mounting and so I held off.
Now I have done a reconciliation of my costs [outside of family history] and I am stunned. It amounted to well in excess of 1,000GBP in the UK and $1,800 Canadian. That was just expenses - not the payments that needed to be made.
This amount [the xpense portion] could have allowed me to complete all the folks in the my tree with ??'s and allow me to put meat on their bones.
Just wanted to rant and now I feel better - no richer in money but richer in spirit!!
Colin

And doesn't it feel good Colin? Happily one of those who didn't 'have it'....money. ( just enough for the Vegemite.)
Happy Families

Money Isn't Everything......
It can buy you a bed - but not sleep
It can buy you a clock - but not time
It can buy you a book - but not knowledge
It can buy you a position - but not respect
It can buy you medicine - but not health
It can buy you blood - but not life
It can buy you s*x - but not love
So you see, money isn't everything, and it often causes pain and suffering. I tell you all this because I'm your friend, and as your friend I want to take away your pain and suffering.....
So send me all your money and I will suffer for you.

Thank you for your generous offer. Between the UK Government, Lawyers/Solicitors and the Candian Government, there's barely enough to keep the wolf away from the door.
So, rather than have you suffer, I'll keep the pittance and buy a lottery ticket. Then, if I win a decent amount, I will visit you in Radnorshire, buy us both a few jugs [why bother with pints?] and you can help me spend the remainder in researching my wife's family.
Deal or no Deal?

Well if you send me the lottery ticket, just in case you don't win. I just want to save you the disappointment you understand. But should you win I will contact you from an unspecified address.
How's that sound?

Nice try - old son. One problem though - because of fraud by retailers here, there is a new process in place - you have to present the ticket in person and provide details of where you bought it. I am the only one that can answer that question, so you will still need me!!!!!
