    Thumbs up Thank you

I appreciate all that each of you have contributed, it helps me get started in the right direction. As there's no living siblings of my fathers (he was the last of 23 children) to ask questions of it makes it difficult. My best friend from childhood whom I've just recently reconnected with told me where my fathers family was from. He told her when she was 9/10 yrs old and she said she did not understand why then but is glad she held onto that bit of info as she did not realize my brother nor I knew nothing of his side of the family. It is a bright beginning and I truly do appreciate your help. If there is any other sites that you know of that would help, I am open to checking them out. I may get over whelmed but will work through it bit by bit

    Kathy

There's a James Frederick Soady registered in the Dec Q 1858 in Liskeard (which covers East Looe).

The 1861 census has this possible family:
    1861:
SOADY Edward Head M M 33 Fisherman Cornwall - East Looe
    SOADY Elizabeth Wife M F 35 Fisherman's Wife Cornwall - Sheviock
SOADY Isabella Dau - F 10 Scholar Cornwall - East Looe
SOADY George Son - M 6 Scholar Cornwall - East Looe
SOADY James Son - M 2 Scholar Cornwall - East Looe
SOADY Frederick Brothr U M 58 Fisherman Cornwall - East Looe
    SOADY Edward Nephew U M 30 Mariner (Merchant Serv.) Ireland - -
MALCOM Rachel Servnt W F 60 Servant Cornwall - Morval

The only marriage I can find is in Stoke Damerel, Devon in the Dec Q 1848 between Edward Sawdey and Elizabeth Mark, however the 1871 census throughs up some surprises:

    1871:
SOADY George Head M M 63 Fisherman Cornwall - East Looe
SOADY Elizabeth Wife M F 45 Cornwall - East Looe
SOADY George Son U M 16 Fisherman Cornwall - East Looe
SOADY James Son - M 12 Cornwall - East Looe
SOADY Sophia Dau - F 10 Scholar Cornwall - East Looe
SOADY Elizabeth Dau - F 7 Scholar Cornwall - East Looe
SOADY Frederick Brothr U M 67 Fisherman Cornwall - East Looe

Namely the father's name and age has changed! George and James are still at home, along with two more sisters, the mothers age is correct (place of birth has changed), and the older Soady brother Frederick is still there too!

I am seeing names like Oke, Gardiner and Pengally that possibly married into the SOADY family, I am not sure

I was using a combination of the Cornwall OPC site, Freebmd & Frecen. Looks like you have some Coastguard families in there too, a lot of Coastguard records dating back to about 1820 are free to download from The National Archives site. Look under Occupations and Coastguard and Preventative Men on this site for a lot of info regarding where to look for more info on Coastguard families. Also, Coastguards of Yesteryear (type it into Google) is an excellent site covering the coastguard in Ireland. Another good site is on Genuki and it lists a lot of coastguard personnel through the census, there are three Saody's from East Looe on there, type "coastguard census info" into google and it comes up. Can't help with Ireland I'm afraid but The Isles of Scilly should come under Cornwall I believe, they have their own OPC too, it comes up quick enough on google.
