Go to Armed Forces and Conflict and enter Stephen Jones with birth year 1867 in the search box. You should get 6 hits under British Army Service Records 1760-1915. I should say here that I am subscribed to findmypast.co.uk and I have just realised that there is now a .com version for the US, but I imagine once you get down to a particular set of records the results are the same. You will see the one for the Dragoon Guards, so click on View Image. Once the first page has loaded it will say at the top "You are viewing Page 1 of 7". Click on the small no.7. Then you should see a large button across the top which says Save Image to Computer. When you opt to save it your download program should kick in. You may think nothing has happened, but if you go to the Download File in Windows Explorer (not sure what happens with a Mac) it should be sitting there.

PS You certainly don't need to build a tree first

    Sue,
Thanks for the information. I did find that my subscription is at FMP.com and seems to be US based. They only had transcriptions available of these attestation papers, not service records. But after poking around a bit with other searches, they have SOME actual images in the UK collections, but not military.

I went to the UK site, and because of the exchange rate, I will have to postpone buying enough credits or a subscription until a bit later. But what you found for me has been put into my notes, and I am looking forward to being able to eventually see them. I was really surprised at the amount of information on your site! Thanks for all of your help, that is very kind of you.

Sue, as a moderator, perhaps you could find a place to post notice about the difference between FMPuk and the .com in case others might want to search from another part of the world. It's best to check which records are available before a purchse. I just didn't realize until too late. Thanks
