Default Define, 1 piece of ground

Hello I have my ancestor's will, William Cate, 1596, which states, he rented a cottage and 1 piece of ground from Walter Denman. Please define 1 piece of ground. Thank you, John

    A garden, a backyard, a field, a pasture, a paddock, a parcel, a tract, a plot, a patch, a clearing, a glade, an area, a common, a lot, a plot, a small holding, a farm, a meadow, a curtilage, a lawn, an allotment or a playground.

Any of the above and I suspect there are several more descriptions

How long is a piece of string? I suspect a cabbage patch.
Sadly, our dear friend Dorothy (alias Thomasin) passed away on Sunday, 17th. February, 2013.

You've missed the obvious description. 6 foot by 3 foot burial plot.

I suspect that if you could find a tithe map from that area at the time your ancestor lived there, you might well be able to plot where the piece of ground lay. Some tithe maps are online - or the archives for the area may hold them.
