Default Ivy Louisa Dare, born 1900 in Surrey

Ivy L Dare is at the residence of Albert & Louisa Sarah Challis at Farnham, Surrey during the 1911 census and is listed as being their niece.

    Albert Challis 48
    Louisa Sarah Challis 55
    William Percy Challis 18
    Ivy Louisa Dare 11
    Louisa Berthon Challis 5

I have tracked Ivy down on the 1901 census where she is with her parents Charles Isaac & Rosa Dare (nee Cooke) and they don't seem to have any link to the Challis family as far as I can see.

    Class: RG13; Piece: 616; Folio: 123; Page: 57

Why would Ivy be listed as a niece?

I had a number of aunties and uncles who were either distant blood relations (grandmother's cousin) or friends of my parents. It could be something along those lines.

Have you found her parents in 1911? Perhaps she was an orphan and being raised by Albert and Louisa.

I've found Charles who is listed as a widower in 1911 and he is still living in the same address as 1901 but there is no sign of a death for Rosa between 1901 and 1911.

Looking at the age of Louisa, being older than Albert, she may have been married twice.
Louisa Sarah SMITH married Albert CHALLIS in 1883, Farnham
A Louisa Sarah DARE married in Sep qtr 1878, farnham. On the same page is a Henry SMITH, 2a page 152
Death of a Henry SMITH age 33 in Jun 1881, Farnham.
So niece of Louisa, niece by marriage to Albert, head of household.

I didn't think of looking for a previous marriage as I didn't look at the ages of Charles and Louisa.

Thank you for finding the connection.
