Can anyone tell me if the St Peter's church which once stood on the Penn Road in Wolverhampton, but was subsequently demolished to make way for the ring road had any burials within the grounds? If so, then what happened to the bodies/headstones etc when the church was demolished. I have a John Alfred Barnett who possibly died in the September quarter of 1938 aged 49 who, according to family legend, was a verger there. The story is that he fell from some sort of scaffolding at the church, but it is unknown as to whether that was a fatal accident. If he was verger, and there were burials there, then I am hoping to find his burial. I have the GRO reference to apply for a copy death cert. but wonder if this is a correct one, or if he went just by the forename John or Arthur for which there are many deaths in Wolverhampton. In 1911 he is living at 40 Zoar Street, Wolves. but by 1936, on the marriage of a son, the son gives his own address as 128 Merridale Street, Wolves and I am wondering if that was now the family address. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Sorry, I can't answer your question so your best bet would be to contact Wolverhampton & Local Archives Studies at Molineux Hotel, Whitmore Hill, W'ton.
Their telephone no.is 01902 552480 or e-mail them at: archives@wolverhampton.gov.uk
I'm sure they'll be able to answer your questions
Good luck

According to wolverhamptonhistory.org.uk they cover ALL Wolverhampton Church Burials. St Pauls is NOT included in the burials list. Therefore I would say not.
