    Default GRO record search

Is it possible for the General Record office UK to do a search of multiple certificates and try to match them up with facts you give them, or do you have to go there yourself?

No, they will not do multiple searches and you can't go there yourself. They will however check a specific year and location and and look at certificates one year either side for something that matches the criteria you give them.

If you wish, you can order multiple times and for each separate order, you can give them a specific fact to check.

Does that mean you have to pay for each order?

Yes. But you receive a refund if they cannot find a certificate that matches the criteria you specify.

I take it this relates to your William Wilkinson thread.

If so, he has a very distinctive occupation and this is certainly one criteria that you could specify when ordering a potential death certificate. If you give them a name, year of death, a location and an occupation, then they will search that year +/-1 for something that matches for that location.

BTW: GRO stand for General Register Office.

Just to add to Olliecat's posts - I order on line and sometimes want searches doing because I am not certain which is the correct entry - if they can't match up your request you get a no quibbles full refund straight away.
