Have you seen this likely candidate just 8 miles from Penmaen here...?

But was she shown as "wife of..." or "widow of..."?Mary Catherine Lewis nee Powell was there Dec 1954 at her Death.
It is helpful to include such details in the question because then we know at least whether the husband died before or after her.

That looked like a good possibility to me too.
Note: it was registered in the March quarter rather than the December quarter.
However, there is an entry in the National Probate Calendar for a Herbert James Lewis of 1 Craig Road, Upper Cwmbran, Monmouthshire who died on the 14 Feb 1957.
Upper Cwmbran is in the Pontypool registration and so I suspect that the death certificate above is for this chap. Doesn't help with finding a Herbert Joseph Lewis but at least it will save you buying the wrong certificate.

Another possibility is this death registration...
Death Dec 1968 Bedwellty 8C 83
LEWIS, Herbert J
Age at death:87
Est birth date: 1881
Perhaps you could answer Peter's question in post #3.

- and a reply to Peter's question may pin down a death for Herbert!
