Mary Catherine Lewis nee Powell was there Dec 1954 at her Death.
But was she shown as "wife of..." or "widow of..."?

It is helpful to include such details in the question because then we know at least whether the husband died before or after her.

That looked like a good possibility to me too. Note: it was registered in the March quarter rather than the December quarter.

However, there is an entry in the National Probate Calendar for a Herbert James Lewis of 1 Craig Road, Upper Cwmbran, Monmouthshire who died on the 14 Feb 1957.

Upper Cwmbran is in the Pontypool registration and so I suspect that the death certificate above is for this chap. Doesn't help with finding a Herbert Joseph Lewis but at least it will save you buying the wrong certificate.

Another possibility is this death registration...

    Death Dec 1968 Bedwellty 8C 83
    LEWIS, Herbert J
    Age at death:87
    Est birth date: 1881

Perhaps you could answer Peter's question in post #3.

Is this your family in 1911

    Lock House, Newbridge, Mon

John Nowell (Image reads Powell) c1848 Crickhowell, Brecon Lock keeper gwk? canal

Mary Catherine Lewis 1883 dau Rogerstone, Mon married 8 years with 3 children/all living
Raymond Tertius? Lewis 1905 son Abercarn, Mon.
Irving Nowell (image reads Powell) Lewis 1907 son. Abercarn
Winifred Margaret Lewis 8 months daug. Abercarn

If so this might be Herbert with his parents:

    Cae? Gorlan Street, Abercarn

John Lewis 1853 St Clears, Caernarvon Stone Mason

dont know if you have any of this info, but there's also a possible marriage for Herbert.

Herbert Joseph Lewis on same page as Mary Catherine Powell
    May Q 1903 Newport Monmouth. 11a 363

    - and a reply to Peter's question may pin down a death for Herbert!

    Very True!

Although I sometimes keep info (of the impinging type) tucked away under my bed and ignore it completely.
