Sheila, I don't know if you have them already, but a couple of other items I came across on Ancestry included an entry in the 'Detroit Border Crossings and Passenger and Crew Lists' for Sidney Gerald Mantle, Hilda May Mantle and Gerald N Mantle. Playing with the dates, this appears to be in 1927.

There is also an entry in the 'U.S. Naturalization Records Indexes' for Sidney.

Sorry I can't see the details. If you don't have a sub with Ancestry, perhaps your local library does and if so you can pop along there to view the details.

Sheila, there is a death notice for Sidney Gerald Mantle in the "Syracuse Herald July 20 1936"
if you google the bit in quotation marks the item is there..look for the entry for Page 18.

Some of the words are a bit blurred (for my eyes!) but it gives you quite a lot of info.

Thanks olliecat - I don't have access to Ancestry but can get the details next time I go to local Archives.

olliecat - I've already got 1901/1911 Census thank you

By the way - Leonora (Hilda's mother) was a Mantle before she married John George Smith.
Have checked files - I haven't got an Abraham Mantle so he must be from another Mantle family.

Well that explains that. Yesterday I thought my eyes were playing up. The marriage on Ancestry I looked at - well it listed Hilda May SMITH and below it said mother Leonora MANTLE. I thought NAAAH!, that's the groom's surname! Must be an error or dodgy eyes I thought and I decided a nice cup of tea was in order.
