Hi All....I'm sorry to have put you all to so much trouble. I have all the info you have found.
Joseph Marshall m Ellen Williams 25 Aug 1873. According to family stories Ellen was a 'servant to the Marshall family' and presumably it didn't go down well as no one from the family witnessed the wedding. The witnesses were George & Martha Davenport (Ellen is on 1871 census with them as a visitor, OCC. servant).
Joseph Henry Marshall (son of above) was born on 16th Nov 1873 @ 1 Emerson Place, so Ellen would have been about 6 months pregnant.
In 1881 census Joseph Snr is listed as a Widower, Occ. Railway Inspector he is living @ 9 Navarino Rd. Hackney. His son Joseph Henry is living with his Grandmother @ 94 Colvestone Crescent, Hackney.
On 7 Aug 1882 Joseph Snr ( widower) remarried to Eleanor Constance Lanagan ( AKA Ellen), it is her on all the subsequent census info.
1st wife Ellen is supposed to have died in childbirth and Joseph Henry sent to Canada (no one knows why). I haven't found Ellens death (the one in 1875 isn't her).
School admissions: 2 April 1883 Joseph admitted to Heber Road School, Home address, 7 Landells Road
" " 12 Nov 1883 " " " Sydney Road School, " " 86 Hassett Road
I've lots of info on who I believe is Joseph Henry in Ontario Canada, ie sent from Shaftesbury House in London in 1888 age 14. 1891 Canada census living with William Allen & family. Marriage 1896 in Haldimand Ontario to Harriet Young. 1901 Canada census gives his birth date as 16 Nov 1871?
Thanks again
