Off-topic, I know, but in my own case I am in line for an experimental surgical procedure relating to my hearing loss. Part of the questionnaire asked about my parents, their siblings and their parents [my grandparents]. My mother's sibling died at age 28 of pneumococcal menigitis and as a consequence of this, I was told I needed immunization against meningitis.

Having this information available up-front has now put me front and centre for the surgery and all reasonable precautions have been taken so that I come out in better shape than when I went in.

I got a copy of my dads Queensland death cert last month and cost was $37 au, (abt 24 British pounds) obviously differs state to state, but compared to UK death certs I have ordered it contains a wealth of info...parents names inc mothers maiden name, time he had been in Australia..Mums maiden name and all his childrens names and ages..UK are quite basic by comparison..
