Hi ,
I have for some years now been searching for birth records of above, info i have as follow,s,
JOHN DAVEDG(note spelling)married Dinah HATTERSLEY 25th mar 1788 ecclesfield yorks,
In 1786 they had 1st child Elizabeth christened 30th nov 1786 Bolton le moors .
In 1788 " " 2nd " Dinah " 24th mar 1788 Ecclesfield Yorks,
On the 25th mar 1788 they married at Ecclesfield ,then they are at Ringley Bolton ,he is a papermaker .
Then there is William christened st Saviours Ringley 4th july 1790,entry says ,William son of John Davidge of outwood ,papermaker and his wife Dinah.
Next is John Davidge christened 28th oct 1792 St Saviours Ringley ,entry same as for William .
The next child Joseph is Christened 5th june 1796 Ecclesfield yorks ,no mention of JOHN on entry.
" " " Mary " " 19th june 1803 Ecclesfield yorks ,no mention of John.
Did JOHN die 1792 as there is an entry for a JOHN DAVIDAGE being buried st saviours that year ???.
On marriage entry he is said to be born Bolton in the county of Lancaster 1763??.
I have been sent what i think is the marriage licence?? which says he was 36yrs old on wedding day??makes his birth year 1752??,
.
I think i need a JCB to knock this wall down ,any help on this I would be grateful ,many thanks Chrisdav![]()

Family search has the marriage but just as York, England presumably meaning Yorkshire as Ecclesfield is near Sheffield
That entry is listed as Davodg and he is supposedly 36 giving a birthdate of 1752
I have checked the entire batch for Bolton, St Peters 1713 - 1762 for any likely candidates, but found nothing I could associate.
I did the same for Bolton Le Sands but again no joy. The LDS do not have any records going back to 1750 for Bolton Le Moors.
I wonder if there are two families here Bolton and Ecclesfield are hardly close, but given the date I guess a check on the canal system at that time might provide and answer to the ease of movement.
Given the missing data at the LDS for Bolton le moors have you tried the Lancashire OPC

hi Raffaele ,thank you for very prompt reply ,out of interest i got todays route from Bolton to Sheffield and it is 53miles ,i have exentsively researched this and i am sure they are one and the same but cannot find John before marriage except for the 2 births ,my thoughts are that he was not born lancashire at all but elsewhere ??,as a papermaker i would have thought he would have been apprenticed but i cannot get access to apprenticeship records ,there were 4 JOHN DAVIDGE,s born around 1752 but they are all in southern england??,i would love to break this wall down ,but still it stands ,many thanks hris

FamilySearch isn't always as clear as it should be when it comes to place names. If it is ambiguous you can always check by copying the film number and pasting it into the FamilySearch catalogue at
https://www.
familysearch.org/#form=catalog
(In the left-hand box, choose 'Film numbers' from the drop-down menu.) In this case the film number, 1469725, corresponds to 'Marriage bonds and allegations for the Diocese of York, 1618-1887.' So in this case 'York' meant neither the city of York nor Yorkshire but the diocese, but another time it might mean something else.
Do you already have a copy of the actual marriage licence bond or allegation, chrisdav? Or do you just have the transcribed entry as shown on FamilySearch? If you haven't yet seen the original it may be worth tracking down a copy, in case it gives any more information.
