Littleport Parish Registers are available from our sponsors, Parish Chest, which may help to take the family back further.

the 1891 Census for 20, Bower Street, Sheffield (RG12 piece 3816 folio 5 page 3) has:
John CLINGO aged 25 a General Labourer born Norfolk
Emma CLINGO aged 35 born Cambridgeshire
Walter HENBY aged 62 a General Labourer born Suffolk
Amelia HENSBY, Niece aged 10 born Cambridgeshire

could this be a mistake by the Enumerator. Also it is possible that Amelia's age is 19. Difficult to tell with a line throgh it.

Question, for i am a little confused. Lilly Petit must be from the Clingo side (john surly has a brother that married a Petit, hence being a neice) For Walter Hensby is an In Law which i presume is Emmas father?

    is that right-ish?

So yes, Walter would be Emma's father.

In 1859 James Pettet married Susan Clingo, Ely Cambs, so this is probably the link.

Edit: in 1851 it looks as if John aged 6 had a brother James aged 12 (assuming I have the right family) HO107; 1764; 697; 10 copyright TNA.
Sadly, our dear friend Dorothy (alias Thomasin) passed away on Sunday, 17th. February, 2013.

Walter HENSBY had several daughters, including Emma, and I traced several of them but there could have been ones I missed. Also any one of them could have, either married more than once or had an illegitimate daughter who then took their step-father's name. This needs the wider families investigating.

    Here's how I see it..............

Lily Pettit dau of: John Matthew Pettit and Sarah Elizabeth Hensby.

Sarah Elizabeth Hensby and Emma Jane Hensby (married name Clingo) are sisters, and daughters' of Walter.

well spotted Lizzy. HINSBEY never came up in my searches. So Amelia appears to be Sarah Elizabeth's daughter. Of course I could be wrong - - - - - - -

I'm unsure who's dau she is, Nicolina..............but, there's this birth reg.

Amelia Hinsley Apr-Jun 1882, Wayland Norfolk.

Hinsby/Hinsley seem to be often confused............I guess that 'ley' and 'by' can be difficult to decipher. I wonder which is correct?
