Adoption?

I'm trying to trace a person on the family tree and I'm finding it difficult to go forward/ or should I say backwards....
She was born 20 January 1925 Manchester area. She married in July 1961 in Bournmouth and her husband was born 15 June 1926 in Birmingham.

I have been told that she probably was adopted. I don't have any idea where to start looking for any records of hers. I can only find her wedding record. I haven't purchased the certificate yet as I don't know whether her birth name will be on.

Any ideas on how to find her birth, and her true name?

Adoption posts after 1911 are not permitted on this forum and I have edited out the names of the people involved.

Please read the stickies at the top of the Adoption forum, where you may be able to find the clues that you need.

I haven't purchased the certificate yet as I don't know whether her birth name will be on.

The marriage cert will only give her adopted name - not the birth name.

I believe, in England and Wales adoption first became legal in 1926. Being as she was born prior to this date she would not have been legally adopted at birth.
