Charles Lilly appears in Stoke on Trent during the 1851 census with his wife Thomasine and daughter Sarah, now that is pretty straight forward obviously but further reading shows that Charles' brother George and his wife Martha are staying with them.
Now comes the confusing part as there are two children who could possibly be the offspring of George and Martha but are listed as grandchildren of the head of the household (Charles).
Charles Lilly 36 born Hingham, Norfolk
Thomasine Lilly 31 born Dereham, Norfolk
Sarah A Lilly 2 born Berington, Warwickshire
George Lilly 31 born Hingham, Norfolk
Martha Lilly 26 born Whissonnett, Norfolk
Frances E Lilly 2 born Whissonett, Norfolk
Edward A Lilly 4 Mo born Whissonett, Norfolk
Class: HO107; Piece: 2006; Folio: 135; Page: 26
Are Frances & Edward the niece and nephew of Charles rather than grandchildren?

I've just found the baptism records online for Frances & Edward and they are both the children of George & Martha but it doesn't change my question about them being listed as grandchildren instead of neice and nephew.

as they are listed as Gd dau & Gd Son on the image, it looks as though it could be an Enumerator's error

I've not looked at the original yet but Nicolina has said they are listed on the image as
Gd dau & Gd Son.
I wonder if they are the God children of Charles and Thomasine. It would be feasible for an aunt and uncle to be God Parents and it would be a correct relationship (though niece and nephew would have been better) and not an error.

Certainly a feasible possibility!
Another query on the family is that George (Charles' brother) was baptised Joseph George Lilly according to his baptism registration but every other reference to him only records him as George.

only tonight I've finally found 3 of the marriages I've been pulling my hair out over, two men married just using their middle names. The third went the other way and "acquired" an extra first name. No wonder I haven't been able to find them. Now to find out what names were used for their death registrations, so can finally bury them.
