Looking for information on a Henry Sutton. We only have his marriage certificate which states he was married to Kate Louise Gerrard by licence in 1919 at the Belmont Chapel, Devonport. He is shown as Chief Petty Officer RN and that he was based at the St Budeaux Camp, Devonport.
His father, Charles, is shown as deceased and that he was a Ganger with GR Railways.
We can find nothing more about this family.
Any ideas anyone ?
Thanks

Henry Sutton
No details except he was married at the Belmont Chapel, Devonport in 1919 to Kate Louise Gerrard. It states he was aged 34 and based at St Budeaux Camp, Devonport. Witnesses were Richard Ashworth and Ruth A. Ashworth. Can't find anything for him before that or after !!
Help please.

given that it would have taken time to become a CPO, there is a possible from the 1911 Census.
H.M.S. Mallard at No. 1 Buoy, Lazaretto, Malta (RG14PN34973 RD640 SD4 ED1 SN9999)
Henry George SUTTON aged 27 (born abt. 1885), single man born Kingsdown, Kent.
the age fits with that on the marriage certificate. Unfortunately the only Henry SUTTON, born Kent, that I can find on the 1891 Census has a father named George.

Thank you all re Charles and Henry Sutton
You have given us lots of information which goes towards the puzzle but the pieces don't all fit !! Things don't tie up and I'm having doubts about the accuracy of the Marriage Certificate ! Exciting detective work though !

4Sutton, have you thought about trying to locate Henry SUTTON's service records? I had a quick search on the TNA but nothing popped up that stood out particularly. However you should search for yourself in case I have missed something.
It is unclear (at least to to me) if the TNA research guide on on Royal Naval Officers' Service Records covers CPO's as they were ranked below Warrant Officers. Perhaps someone can clarify this. Notwithstanding, for all we know your chap could have attained a higher rank by the end of his service. However, a search of ADM 196 for Henry Sutton brings back no results..

By the way, here are two TNA guides for ratings.
Looking for records of a rating in the Royal Navy after 1923
Royal Navy ratings: further research.
Please also bear in mind that depending on his rank, if he served after 1924, then his records may be with the MOD. See here and here for further information.

Above all, don't be discouraged & give up. I found 3 Kate Louise Gerrards, several without the 'Louise'. Also lot's of Henry Suttons.
Did Kate give an age or Fathers name on marriage certificate? It's been known for either party to give wrong age or even Parent if they had a falling out.
Sometimes Wrong Fathers name was given for either Bride or Groom especially if he died several years before or the cleric or whatever was busy/rushed/ not listening. (re Charles)
I guess you have reasons for being sure that the certificate does relate to someone in yourFamily or who-ever you're searching for.?
Hang in there.Happy Families
