    Default Hempstead House, Hemel 1946

Am having great fun trawling Ancestry's extended probate register for deaths post-1945 - hopefully, without having to pay huge fees for death certificates!
Have found my 1st cousin 3 x removed with his death listed as Hempstead House, Hemel. He was a railway worker at Tring and died aged 55 in 1946. Was this place a hospital? Or does anyone know if there's a connection with the railways? I've always been intrigued by this branch as they have a few 'secrets'!
    Thanks

I think it was the former workhouse:

See also the Hospital Records Database.
