Hi! I am hoping someone can very kindly help me, My grandmother was 100 in November and she was born 27th November 1911 on Charles Street, Tredegar, South Wales.
Now the problem I have is I have never been able to trace her parents marraige, nor their births except that I know her mother was Lillian Elizabeth Roberts, nee'Cole, nee'Jones and born c1881, died in 1955.
Grandma's dad was Richard John Roberts born 1855, give or take a year, he died in march 1923 by suicide in Tredegar aged 65, now ive never been able to find the family on the 1911 census in Tredegar, nor anywhere, and although my grandma wouldnt have been quite born when the census was taken, her elder sister Lillian Cole (or Roberts) born 1908 would be on it somewhere living with her mom Lillian Elizabeth Roberts, and her stepdad Richard John Roberts, they got married acording to Lillian Elizabeths writings in January 1910.
If I could only see my grandma on the 1921 census it will give me the details about her mom and dad and give me a clue as to when and where they were born, any help is so helpful as I want to tell this to my grandma dies. . why cant I find these people!!!! . . . . ive been looking for over 10 years.
Thanks!
Lee

Hi Lee - welcome to Brit-Gen,
I have removed the name of your grandmother as details of living people are not allowed. However, I think that there is enough information in your post for others to help with your query.
I have also moved it to a thread of its own, so that members can concentrate on it and any answers not be confused with the details on the other thread. Talking of which....
Have a read of post #3 of that thread as that will explain the current rulings about the 1921 census in England and Wales.
Meanwhile, I am sure that the members here will do their best to help you find your ancestors.

Hello Lee and welcome to the forum.

Lee, could you clarify this for us. I take it from the order you have written the above that Lilian was previously married to a COLE and her maiden name was JONES. Is this correct?
Do you have daughter Lilian's birth certificate? Is it this one?
Birth Sep 1909 Bedwellty 11A 63
COLES, Lilian

Hi Olliecat!
Thank you for that, its a very complicated storey which Is why Ive never been able to solve it my whole life. my great grandmother Lillian Elizabeth Roberts married my Grandmothers father (so she says) in Jan 1910 and had Grandma in 1911, however Grandma had a sister who was born in July 1908 from her previous marriad to an Alfred Cole, who died the month before she was born in 1908, we blieve in Kent, or london way as Lillian Elizabeth had a Kent accent whereas the whole family had a Welsh one. Now In Lillian Elizabeths family bible she has written that she married Alfred Cole in Jan 1900 ('Elizabeth Jones married Alfred Cole Jan 2nd 1900') but she uses her middle name in this description, that means I dodnt know if even Alfred was his first name or that could have been a middle name, its also very odd that she married next 'Elizabeth Cole married John Roberts jan 2nd 1910', very very odd both on same day of the year, now it also says that my Aunt Lily was born "Lilian Cole borne July 5th 1908' and her dad Alfred died June 12th 1908, Ive never found these entree's. So I have to ask myself, was my great grandmother actually ever married?! or did she have Lily out of wedlock and made up the name 'Alfred Cole' to save shame, as far as I can see, he never died! and my Aunt never knew anything about him either. . . aghh!!
Ive never found my Aunt Lily's birth entree, but that is the second mystery, her life details in the family bible, as written by her mother do not match up to either her death cert, or her marriage cert's which I have copies of, Lilian 'Roberts' married David Mustard in 1932 but lied about her age, not because she was under age, just lied about being older from what i remember and said her father was a Robert Roberts with a better job than a coal miner which was her step dads profession. So lots of secrets and fib's with this line of the family, if you can make any sense you are amazing! :-)
