    Default George Punter

I applied to the Wisbech Museum who ,have some records for BMD'S, and asked if they could confirm the Father of Frank, Lily, and Hilda Punter on their marriages. Their Father George was Gardener at Beaupre Hall. I recieved the reports today confirming that the above ages were correct but the Father is down as a Fruit growing foreman. Would a Gardener describe himself as that. These marriages took place in 1920 and i've been told the George was still working at the Hall at that time.

I don't see why a gardener could not be in charge of the orchards.
There is a picture here of the Hall in 1923. Grounds look to be extensive.

Where do you get "Gardener" from? You need to weigh up all the evidence and make a judgement. What addresses were given on the children's marriage certificates? What was the father's occupation on his death certificate? His wife's death certificate?

I suspect that basically, you haven't collected enough evidence, particularly BMD certificates.

On the 1891 and 1911 census the occupation for George is Gardener (domestic) on the 1901 census it's Hall Gardener and he and family are living at Beaupre Hall Lodge. Some years ago i spoke to the local historian for Outwell and he confirmed that George had lived in Beaupre Hall Lodge which was also referred to as the Gatehouse. He also sent me a picture of George Standing just outside.
He also put me in touch with a very elderly man who had known George at the beginning of the second world war. This man confirmed that George had been the Gardener at the Hall.
