Default Re: Margaret Kipling et al C1888, Durham

Hello again to all the B-G Parish Members

I am trying to locate information regarding Francis George Kipling born 03 February 1910, Westcornforth, Sedgefield, Durham. His mother's name is: Margaret Kipling, C1888, single, name of Father not known.

I believe I have found them both registered on the 1911 England Census working/residing at Windsor Terrace, Cornforth, Sedgefield, Durham, registered as: Servant, single, 22 and Servant's son, aged 1 for the 'Whitton' family.

I am aware that Francis George Kipling was given up for adoption after 1911 and I wondered if any Member would know which Institution he may have gone to prior to him being adopted as a young boy?
Plus, if anyone could let me know if he was Baptised etc. I am aware that Margaret Kipling after giving her son up for adoption married but not sure of the Spouse's name, date of marriage etc.

Your kind help in pointing me in the right direction and/or any advice would be, as always, most welcome.

I look forward to hearing from you very soon.

    Sincere thanks.

What evidence do you have of this? Follow the path suggested by this evidence first. Otherwise, search the poor law records - specifically, the Sedgefield Board of Guardians.

Presumably you know that adoption was not put on a firm legal basis until 1926.

Plus, if anyone could let me know if he was Baptised etc.
Search the parish registers. Registers of the parish of Sedgefield have been filmed by the Mormons so it's not an insuperable problem to get to see them.

I am aware that Margaret Kipling after giving her son up for adoption married but not sure of the Spouse's name, date of marriage etc.
Search the GRO indexes for suitable marriage records.

You say you've found them in 1911. Can you trace the mother back to 1901?

If he survived, a Francis G. Kipling married in Sedgfield, Durham- Martha J Cowell. Dec.1/4 1933 10a-385.
However you'd need that certificate to prove his Parentage, whichever one it was. Or Church records.

Perhaps there were others of that name about.
