One more to add to the mix:

    1901 census 1570 f63 pg8
15 Stephens Road, West Ham, Essex

Thomas Wilson 1841 Loughton, Essex Corporation Road labourer
    wife Marg A 1841 Middlesex
    son Harry A 1880 West Ham Labourer/Chemical
ARTHUR Wilson Grandson 1895 West Ham

    1891 Census 1330 f93 pg54
15 Stephens Rd, West Ham, Essex

Thomas and Marg A (who becomes Mary Ann) have a son

Thomas George Wilson b 1872 Loughton, Essex (paper hanger) who could be a possible father to Arthur Wilson?

    Bin this one!

Thomas George Wilson b1872 Loughton on 1911 census with wife Alice Maud - 3 children born, 3 still alive and not one Arthur amongst them..sorry!

    Fuddle-duddle!!!!

3 kids born in Camberwell to this couple between 1920 and 1927. He died J-M 1971 in Pontefract. She died Worthing A-J 1992 if born about 1902.

Could he have been 'estranged' from his father and didn't want him involved in the wedding? Or could the father have been ill and rather than confess to his bride he just said that he was deceased?

Grasping at straws to make the circumstances fit.

    Colin

Definitely not if he was hoping for some paternal cash to see them started on married life - he was a Yorkshireman after all!!

Don't think 'pops' had lots of loot - but the family was 'regular' - the old man made Pontefract Cakes.

krismil, do you have any other information that may help us to identify the right Arthur?

For example, do you know when/where he died? If it was in or after 1969 there should be a date of birth in the GRO death index. Have you checked the local newspaper for an obituary and/or funeral report? Sometimes these give crucial clues to family connections.

Do you have any clues as to his war-time activity (medals, discharge papers, photos of him in uniform, etc.?).

I think Arthur T Wilson died Sutton RD Sep Quarter 1966 aged 72 as there is a Probate Register Entry in 1966 - Arthur Thomas Wilson of 61 Cardinal Avenue, Morden, Surrey died 30 August 1966 at St Helier Hospital, Carshalton, Surrey.
Probate London 11 November to Vera Constance Wilson, widow, and Douglas Arthur Wilson, diamond setter. £5247.

Vera died in Bromley RD (Kent) in June Q 1982. Date of Birth 20 November 1894.

You've found the right one - Douglas Arthur was one of the children born in Camberwell

    Pontefract just doesn't fit
