Who put the information on the census forms. The head of a family or was it an official. I wondered if it was an official as there seems to be quite a few mistakes.

The head of the household (or someone on his behalf) filled in the form. Then the information was copied by the enumerator to his enumeration book. Up to 1901, only the enumeration books have survived (apart from a few isolated cases). As Jan suggested, you really would find it very useful to have a book on the census.Who put the information on the census forms? The head of a family or was it an official?
