    Default Sergeant in 33rd Regiment?

Hello again to all the B-G Members

I wondered if I could request your kind help again please? I am researching a 'John Davi(e)s' born
1791. I have found him and his family Wife, Ann and three of his children in the 1841 Census living in
Belmont Hill, Lee, Kent. It states he was not born in the county of Kent but is registered as a Half Pay Army Pensioner (he is aged 50.)

I am aware that his eldest son Charles Davis was born in Hanover in 1817 - I am presuming John Davis was a serving member of the British Army at this time. However, how do I find a birth record for Charles Davis if he was born in Hanover plus, how does one locate Army Records pertaining to John Davis who is stated on his son Charles' Marriage Certificate that the Rank or Profession of Father is: Sergeant, 33rd Regiment?

As always, your help, advice and support would be most welcomed. Thank you for taking the time to read the above.

    Kind regards always

Please remember to provide census references

    The National Archives; HO 107/484/1 f 16 p 24

I thought it didn't sound right and it actually reads "Army H.P.". The word "pension" is not there. Half pay is something officers received. It was equivalent to a pension but wasn't actually called a pension. Other ranks might get a pension but it wasn't half pay.

There's a conflict there to be sorted out. For starters, look in the GRO overseas/military indexes for the son's birth and order a certificate if you find something. Look in series WO 97 for a service record. Both these are on FMP.

Search the Army Lists in case he really was an officer.

    Hello Peter

Thank you very much for your speedy response and for pointing out the particulars pertaining to Pension etc., I had found the information re: John Davies/Army Pensioner on an 'alternative 1841 Kent Census' which was not registered on my usual research site that I subscribe to which had him registered in 1841 as 'Army HP.'

However, I shall now take a peek at the GRO etc., as advised - thank you for your kind advice, as it is appreciated.
