Born in Ireland or Scotland?

I'm trying to find out where my ancestor was born, his name was Robert Houston and I have him down in the 1911 census saying Ireland, in the 1881 census saying Bishopbriggs, Lanarkshire, in the 1871 census saying Kirkcudbright, Auchencairn, and in the 1851 census saying Lanarkshire, Auchencairn

His death certificate (1913 aged 81) gives his parents' names as Robert Houston and Sarah Gilroy and I can't find a death or marriage for them.

If anyone has any suggestions it would br gratefully received

Have you been able to find his parents in the early censuses? Their location and where they say they were born might assist.

There are several Robert Houstons about the same age as yours.
What was his wife's name?

Thanks everyone sorry for the delay in my reply been having internet troubles.

I've looked for his parents in the census but can't find a match.

He was married to a Catherine Miller in 1852 in Glasgow, she died in 1893.

Have you considered this family in the 1841 census?
