Cool Ethel Violet Green.....HELP please anyone!!!!

Can anyone help Pleeeeez!!! Ethel is my mums birth mother!!! my mum discovered when she was 50 she had been adopted.....my mum died shortly after in 1991!!! we found out 2 years ago we could access her court papers and we finally got them released last year....phew!!! all we know about Ethel is that she was born 1906 had a brother John and was in Manchester (england) to give birth to my mum (we have an address in manchester....John was with her??!!) but no records for them at that address!!! the thing that is even more wierd is that she gave my mum the middle name of Pendlebury (which is an area in salford!!) she also said she was a drapers assistant!!!

Any info tips would be a brill help as the more answers we get the more questions it raises!!!

We just want to find out where Ethel was from as our concept of our family history is now thrown into disarray!!!

    thank you....lillipilli

On Cheshire BMD there is an Ethel Violet Green registered 1906 on Freebmd 8a see D/08 it says it's a late entry. If this is the correct one then in 1911 she is in Congleton with 8 siblings one of whom is John, born in India. Their father is a soldier and the are at the 7th Batt Cheshire Reg drill Hall. Hope this helps.

    Sorry....She's on Cheshire in 1908

Well there are a lot of Greens around Pendlebury, including three Ethel Greens. Details: 1911 census RG14; Piece: 23970. Ethel Irene Green b. 1907 481 Bolton rd, Pendlebury father Josiah Green. The other two are born 1910 & 1911 which is a bit late for you. Also there is a John Pendlebury Green who died in Bolton in 1907 estimated birth 1838 Bolton Lancs 8c 185. He married an Elizabeth Hurst in Bolton in 1889 (Jul - Sept 1889 Bolton 8c 541). There is a will in probate for John Thomas Pendlebury Green of 55 Brookhouse st Wigan dated Feb 1938 who leave £1525 to Arthur Pendlebury Green, Percy Pendlebury Green, and Norman Pendlebury Green engineers.

Looks like the birth was registered in Dec qtr 1908, but the birth took place in Mar qtr 1906, hence the two entries on GRO index, and the one entry on Cheshire BMD in 1908.
There is the christening on familysearch:
25 March 1906, St. Mary, Chester, Parents John and Mary Jane GREEN

    Cool Big thanks.....

...to everyone for their input!!! yes so far the congleton family are our best bet!!!! the only prob that has come up is that ethel claims on the adoption papers to be RC faith and brother john says he is anglican on his army papers but how true that is??? the funny thing about the india connection is that one of my mums adopted aunts married an indian guy while she was serving in india and lived in calcutta!!! but the cheshire ethel comes up all the time!!! so we are going to do some further research there....so thank you!!! we disregarded her initially because we were working on the presumption she was a lot younger but we recently went to the county records office in manchester and looked at the Withington Hospital records, which is how we found out her birth year and it said her brother John was with her!!! and staying at the same address in manchester!!! which is what makes us think they werent local!!! plus the story in my mums adopted family was that the adoption was arranged through the RC church in ireland!!! confused yep same here!!!

Have you tried accessing the Electoral Roll Records for the adress you have in the year of the adoption ... we did this for my husbands adoptive mother. All we needed to do was phone the relevant area and they gave us the information on the telephone.

yes thanks for that wendy.....have checked for both addresses given.....one is 20 nell lane, withington which apparently was commonly used for births, deaths etc from withington hospital (its actually the home of the registrar at the time my mum was born!!! and the other address which is 15 sidney street chorlton on medlock was prob a lodgings house or boarding house and have also looked at the vr for some of surrounding streets and still no joy which suggests they came into the area to have the baby and then went back to wherever!!! we have looked for family connections but so far no joy!!! but thanks again for the hint any others that come to mind would be gratefully received!!! am pleased to hear that you found the info you were looking for!!!
