I wonder if it is possible to get an image of a Manchester Cathedral Marriage through a library, agency, etc? I have found the marriage (and an image) on FamilySearch in 1819 for a Joseph Hibbert and Nanney Ridings. It includes his signature.
I am descended from a Joseph Hibbert and Ann (maiden name unknown) who had their first child in 1820. The only marriage I have found that might fit is this one to Nanney. They were both of Oldham.
Joseph was widowed and married again. He married 20 Jul 1829 at Manchester Cathedral to Ellen Clare. I have got lots of information on his children and their descendants but have never been able to find Ann's maiden name or Joseph's baptism.
The signature of Joseph to Nanney Ridings is quite distinctive so if he signed again when he married Ellen, I'd love to compare it!

I'm not sure that would be a good idea. That link appears to be for the provision of certified copies of the register which are relatively expensive. They are also transcripts and not photocopies of the original. Thanks! I will try that.
For research purposes we don't need certified copies and usually prefer a photocopy of the original. I believe you can get a photocopy of the original register from the Reprographics Service of Manchester Archives

Hi everyone - thanks for your suggestions. I have ruled out the Joseph Hibbert to Ann Lees marriage as being "mine". That leaves Joseph Hibbert to Nanney Ridings. I haven't been able to rule them out, so hence my wish to see Joseph Hibbert's 2nd marriage to Ellen Clare to see how his signature compares to Joseph Hibbert who married Nanney Ridings. The image for this is on familysearch. org

You should be able to order a copy of the Parish Records through the local familysearch resource centre and view the records.
Go to the Familysearchcentre on the tool bar of the site, there are a least 2 centres in your locality....but how close to you well????
The alternative is to e mail the Manchester library and / or Record office, both are on this link!

Dear Diana,
Back in 1877 my great grandfather James MONKS, a brickmaker, married an Emily HIBBERT before emigrating to Australia.
They were living at Openshaw on the edge of central Manchester. I recommend that you e-mail Glynne HIBBERT from England because he has done far more research on our ancestor line than me especially the English ancestors and naturally is more familiar with the HIBBERT ancestors.
His e-mail is glynne hibbert <glynnehib@gmail.com>
There is also a group at Yahoo that you might like to join, or search it's archives although there have been no new messages for three years, but you never know who might answer......

Happy hunting,

Tony, thanks so much for giving me Glynne's email and I will certainly be in touch. I hit my brick wall on Joseph Hibbert and his wife Ann many years ago. I would love to at least identify Ann - and of course find out who Joseph belonged to.
