    Default Bates & Speed marriage?

Nice early brickwall here. Jillian Bates born 7 June 1937 birth registered in Sept 1937 mother Speed.
I am told that her parents were William Bates and Alice Speed but I can not find a marriage for them anywhere.
Can anyone else find one? I am assuming sometime prior to 1937 but also possibly post that year.

    I cannot find it. Sorry.
    The birth was in Staffordshire.

I can only suggest you apply for the birth certificate to find out if the names are correct.

There is a 1949 marriage of a William Bates to an Eileen Speed or Nutt?
Maybe Alice was previously married to someone else.

I do hope none of these people are still living.

I notice your friend's name as given in the question is different from that shown in the GRO index. Have you not looked at the birth certificate to check the facts and make sure Jill hasn't misinterpreted something? Are those parents' names their full names?

I also noticed the different name but hesitated to put it on the forum if she was still living, however out of curiosity, what does the middle initial 'E' stand for?

This does seem to be getting more complex than I anticipated. Thanks for the private message. I have asked the grandson to give the details to Jill and let her decide how she wants to proceed.
So I will leave it for now and see what they want to do.
