I'm trying to find who Esther is, she is mentioned in the 1709 will of her husband Andrew Ley of Truro Cornwall, lieutenant of HMS Southampton, I think he was possibly born 1682 at Mylor Cornwall, to parents Andrew and Joan Ley (nee Gibbs), I cant find any other Andrew Ley that fits the time line, and I searched high and low for Andrew and Esther's marriage but he being in the navy could have met and married her anywhere I suppose!!
Thanks.
Hugh.

Hugh, there are a few Member submitted entries for an Andrew LEE HAmpshire IGI Familysearch-with references to an Esther. Have you looked into those?

Oops!! sorry Wendy I meant HMS Southampton not Hampshire, also as far as I can make out his will was proved in 1709, (I'm trying to decipher the Latin date at the moment
)

Hugh, it may refer to another Andrew as it does say LEE. Afore mentioned 'member' has him married to an "Hester Parker"
08 JUN 1709 Portsmouth, Hampshire, England.
Two children seem to be of this marriage, Elizabeth, bapt. 07 Aug 1711 & Andrew Lee, 07 Aug 1711 HOLY TRINITY,Gosport Hampshire,ENGLAND
father's name: Andrew Lee
mother's name: Esther
indexing project (batch) number: C07356-1
Must wonder if they were late baptisms or just NOT of your Andrew.
On another entry this Andrew is said to be born :Birth: < 1685> <Holy Trinity, Gosport, Hampshire, England>
so I guess an unsure entry there.
these all came up with search for LEYHappy Families

Yes some of the Mylor ones are mine Wendy, but there's big gaps in the pr's mid 1600's so I've been putting together a database of all the hundreds of Ley's baptisms marriages and burials (various spellings) in Cornwall, using Excel spreadsheet and it's starting to make sense, I hope

I just wish that they had used the same spelling and forgotten all the fancy capitals and flourishes, very confusing trying to work out if it's a T or L sometimes, the transcriptions can also be a bit wonky, I feel sorry for the transcribers when I look at some of the registers
.
Thanks.
Hugh.
