I believe that Mr Sergt could be Master Sergteant and the initials at the end are for * * Royal Horse Artillery. I suppose F C could be something like Field Company

Terry, his army record is on FMP Chrelsea Pensioners -well worth having a look at.
The 2 is actually a Q (remember that's how it used to be written?). His rank is Battery Quarter Master Sergeant.
He eventually became Regimental Quarter Master Sergeant which is about as high as you can get if you weren't an officer.malcolm99

Thank you very much for that Malcolm. I will take a look at it later in the week. Although I did download my great grandfathers army record from around the same time and didn't understand most of it. (well the bit's I could actually read that is)
Thank you again

I am glad that Malcolm99 came on board. What he says confirms much of what my late father had told me about his service in W.W. 2 and an older 'brother' who served in W.W.1.
The 2 F.C could well stand for a 2nd Field Commendation that had not been approved at the time of the census.
I can now leave and finish cooking dinner.
