Can anyone find me a William Gibbs in Stafford around 1901 & 1911? He married Mary Buckley in 1918 and I have a possible birth date of 15 Jul 1893 from his death cert. but I have not been able to find him on census.

How do you know that William Gibbs was in Stafford in 1911 and 1901?
In 1911, the best I can find is a chap residing in Hopton & Coton which about 3 miles from Stafford...
William GIBBS, age 17, born abt. 1894 in Northampton. He is staying with his brother Albert, 28 and his brother's wife Ada, 25. They are in the boot trade.
RG14/16348 SN37
However, there are a couple of other William GIBBS in the census living in Staffordshire - just not particularly close to Stafford.
An occupation and father's name from his wedding cert may help you determine where he is likely to be in the census.

You are right about needing the marriage cert. This is for a colleague at work who thinks his family have always lived in Stafford. He may be disappointed in that respect. The Hopton link is quite likely though

Perhaps he is going by the birth of a dtr named Gibbs & Mother- Buckley in Dec. 1919 at Stafford.
If this child belongs to your colleague, he may need to getthat birth cert. to find the Fathers detail re trade etc.Last edited by Waitabit; 19-05-2012 at 10:27 PM. Reason: addabit

I do know (from what I have been told) that William Gibbs was a boot repairer during his army service
